For Nøgne Ø’s 100th batch the brewers decided to make something special for their own enjoyment. The double IPA (IIPA) that resulted was so good, public demand forced them to release it commercially. The nose is spicy with distinct bitter grapefruit rind and a slight grassiness. The carbonation is spritzy in the mouth, with brown sugar and dark chocolate flavours balanced with a resinous piney hop.
There is some debate whether this is an IIPA or a Barley Wine, but you be the judge.
